1.  Baffles need to be handled with care. Follow these guidelines to keep baffles clean and avoid damage:

  • Keep baffles in packaging until they can be installed to prevent them from getting dirty.
  • Wear clean white gloves when handling baffles to keep the fabric clean.
  • Store baffles laying flat and avoid resting baffles on the edges/corners as this can crush the edges.
  • Avoid squeezing the edges of the baffles which can be easily crushed.
  • If dust gets on the baffles, clean it off using a vacuum with a clean horse hair duster brush attachment.

2.  Take time to determine your baffle layout on the ceiling. Mark the locations of the eye screws the same distance apart as the hanging points on the baffles so that the cables will be vertical. Note that on steel deck ceilings, the eye screws should be installed in the sides of the flutes whenever possible.

3.  For added flexibility of installation, hanging points on the baffle have not been pre-set. Baffle hardware is added on site once appropriate spacing for hanging points has been determined.  This allows for flexibility with varying ceiling types and ceiling obstructions. See Echofelt+ Installation Video Here:

4.  Install eye screws in the ceiling using the type of screws shown on the installation detail for the applicable ceiling type. For drywall ceilings be sure to use the black toggle engagement plug to expand the anchor above the drywall.

5.  Attach the cables to the eye screws using carabiners and then attach the baffles to the cables using another set of carabiners. In aquatic centres cables must be PVC coated. Never use uncoated cables even if they are stainless steel. Cables are not required for baffles being hung tight to the ceiling, but the second set of carabiners may be required depending on the orientation of the eye screws. Note that if sprinklers are present, the top of the baffles must be at least 18” below the sprinkler heads.

6.  If there is any dust on the baffles, clean it off using a vacuum with a clean horse hair duster brush attachment.
