Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Paint Acoustic Panels?
Most acoustic panels cannot be painted. (fabric wrapped acoustic panels, PET/felt board acoustic panels, etc.).
For acoustic products that allow painting, it is CRITICAL to follow manufacturer directions. If directions are not followed, the acoustic performance of the product (NRC Rating) will be diminished, or even nullified completely. Proceed with caution.
Where Can I Find the Technical Reports for My Acoustic Panels?
How do I Compare Brands and Types of Acoustic Products?
What is a NRC Rating?
The higher a NRC rating is to 1.0, the better it performs acoustically. The lower the NRC rating, the poorer it performs acoustically. Most fiberglass acoustic panels have an NRC varying from 0.8 to 1.0, depending upon the thickness.
Do Acoustic Panels Help Soundproof?
Soundproofing is a term often incorrectly used to describe acoustic panels and baffles. These products have a NRC Rating (noise reduction coefficient) that indicates how effective they are at reducing reverberation (echo). True soundproofing blocks sound, rather than absorbing echo.
